Some days you finish today's Pathwords sitting and close the tab. Some days you finish and still want one more path. Pathwords makes room for both. Extra play stays welcome. It does not become a second official daily or a streak assignment.

At pathwords.co, today's board is the shared, dated sitting: the official JSON for your local day. Play Another on the web, and New Game or Play Another Puzzle on iOS, are a different door. They start a freshly generated board on your device. Same eight-way letter-path craft. Same listed-versus-bonus idea. Same Mini, Classic, and Mega rooms. The sitting is local extra play, not a second shared "today."

This journal is about that distinction. Soft habit. Soft engagement. Pathwords is a puzzle for enjoyment, not a training program. Published by Pathwords.

What "today" means

Today's official board belongs to the calendar day on your device. It is the shared sitting people mean when they say "today's Pathwords." On the web, that board can load from pathwords.co as dated JSON. Progress for that board lives in the browser you opened. The day rolls at local midnight. A board you already started stays until you finish it or clear site data.

That shared "today" is why the official daily feels like a daily. One Mini, one Classic, and one Mega for the date. Friends can talk about the same dated sitting. The archive on the web holds past official boards. Those archive boards are free and streak-neutral, each with its own hint pool. Archive is how you revisit a past official day. Play Another is how you get a new generated sitting that is not that official date.

Keeping those lanes clear protects the product story. You can want more path craft after Genius. You can want more path craft after leaving early. You can skip the extra sitting entirely. Extra play is still extra play. It is not a second headline daily stamped with today's date.

What Play Another is

Play Another on the web, and New Game or Play Another Puzzle on iOS, generate a fresh board locally. You still play the same Pathwords craft:

• Connect adjacent letters eight ways, including diagonals
• Avoid reusing a tile inside one word
• Chase listed everyday words at 2 points per letter toward Genius
• Treat bonus leftovers as optional at 1 point per letter
• Pick Mini (3×3, min 3), Classic (4×4, min 4), or Mega (5×5, min 4) as a room size for the sitting

The craft is the same letter-path enjoyment. The board is new. You are not replaying the date stamp of official today. You are asking for another sitting after the dated board, or beside it, when you still feel like a path.

You can open Play Another after Genius. You can open it after leaving early. You can skip it entirely. Soft habit means the extra sitting is optional. Nothing here is designed to scold you into "one more for the streak."

On iOS, the control may read New Game or Play Another Puzzle depending on the screen. The job is the same: local extra play after (or instead of lingering on) the official dated sitting. On the web, Play Another names that job beside the daily and the archive.

Not a second official daily

It is easy to blur "another board" with "another today." Pathwords keeps the blur from becoming the product.

• Official today equals the shared dated board for your local calendar day
• Archive (web) equals past official dated boards, free and streak-neutral
• Play Another / New Game / Play Another Puzzle equals a freshly generated local sitting with the same rules, not the shared dated daily

If you want the social "today" conversation, play the official board. If you want more path craft without claiming a second official date, use Play Another. If you want a past official day on the web, use the archive. Three doors. Three honest jobs.

This note is not a rewrite of the archive-and-keyboard journal. It only ties lightly. Archive is for past official boards. Play Another is for generated extra play. Both can live in one week without competing for the same meaning.

Soft habit: stop, skip, or play more

A healthy Pathwords week can look many ways:

• Official today only. Genius or a handful of listed words, then done
• Official today, then one Play Another when you still feel like a path
• Official Mini in the morning, Play Another Mega in the evening
• Skip a day when life is loud, then return via today or the free archive

None of those shapes is failing the habit. Soft habit is showing up when you want to. It is not treating a counter as homework. Play Another sits in that soft lane. It is available when you want another sitting. It is ignorable when you do not.

We will not sell streak guilt. We will not tell you that skipping Play Another costs you cognitive gains. Pathwords is a puzzle for enjoyment. Extra play is extra enjoyment when you want it. Optional.

Think of appetite, not atonement. Finished the dated board and still curious? Open another sitting. Finished feeling complete? Close the puzzle. Both are successful days. The extra board is not a makeup quiz for missing something. Official today already was the shared sitting. Play Another is only more letter-path craft on a fresh layout.

Untimed, so extra play stays kind

The official daily is untimed. Play Another sittings keep the same spirit. Pause mid-trail. Rethink a diagonal. Leave at Genius or earlier. A freshly generated board should not feel like a timed drill just because it is "extra." The point of local extra play is more letter-path craft when you want it. It is not a second pressure system.

If you are tired, stop. If you are curious, open another board. Untimed play makes that choice honest. You can list a few everyday words and walk away. You can linger toward Genius. You can answer a real-world knock and return without a failed countdown. Soft habit survives real calendars when the sitting can bend.

Same craft, different board identity

Because Play Another uses the same rules, muscle memory transfers. You already know eight-way adjacency. You already know listed versus bonus. You already know Mini feels short, Classic feels balanced, and Mega feels wide. What changes is the letter layout and the official-list shape for that generated sitting. The game you are playing does not change.

That is why Play Another can feel continuous with today without being today. Continuity of craft. Separation of board identity. The dated JSON remains the shared daily. The generated board remains yours alone on that device. Friends talking about "today's Pathwords" mean the official dated sitting. Your local extra board is private practice of the same craft, not a second headline date.

Room size still matters the same way on a generated board. Mini (3×3, min 3) stays a short room. Classic (4×4, min 4) stays the balanced middle. Mega (5×5, min 4) stays the wide room. You can match the room to the time you have after the official sitting, or you can pick a different room than the one you just finished. Soft engagement means the choice stays yours.

Listed words still score 2 points per letter toward Genius. Bonus leftovers still score 1 point per letter and stay optional. Eight-way paths still include diagonals. A tile still cannot be reused inside one word. Those locks do not loosen just because the board was generated locally. Extra play is not a different game with softer rules. It is another sitting of the same game with a new layout.

1. Open today's Mini, Classic, or Mega.
2. Play listed everyday words at your pace. Stop at Genius, or earlier.
3. If you still want a path, choose Play Another on the web, or New Game / Play Another Puzzle on iOS.
4. If you do not, close the puzzle. That is a complete day.

No spoiler boards here. No requirement to take step three. The fork exists so enjoyment can continue without rewriting what "today" means. Step one is the shared dated sitting. Step three is local extra play. Mixing them up in conversation is how "another board" quietly becomes "another today." Keeping the labels honest keeps the habit soft.

You can also reverse the order of appetite without rewriting the calendar. Some players open Play Another first when they want a warm-up path, then open official today when they are ready for the shared sitting. That is still optional. Official today remains the dated JSON for the local day. The generated board remains local. The calendar does not gain a second official stamp because you played more.
